Software Engineer Streaming/Messaging

About the role

eBay’s core streaming and messaging infrastructure team seeks a Software Engineer to build and operate high-scale distributed systems. The role involves designing the streaming lakehouse storage system, ensuring platform reliability, and collaborating with global partners. This is a full-time position based in Bengaluru, India.

What you’ll do

• Build, operate, and continuously improve eBay’s messaging and streaming platforms for reliability and scalability
• Design and develop the streaming lakehouse storage system for large-scale data processing
• Reduce downtime by proactively identifying and resolving production issues
• Strengthen observability through improved monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
• Collaborate with global engineering partners to deliver resilient distributed systems

What you’ll bring

• Strong foundation in computer science including algorithms, OS, networking, and databases
• Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, Rust, or C++
• Deep understanding of message middleware such as Kafka, Pulsar, or RocketMQ
• Familiarity with lakehouse table formats like Apache Iceberg, Apache Paimon, or Apache Fluss

Nice to have

• Experience designing and implementing distributed systems
• Familiarity with storage engines such as RocksDB or LevelDB and database storage internals
• Contributions to relevant open-source projects
