About the role

Vocera, now part of Stryker, seeks a Principal Engineer to drive the technical direction of its AI-powered voice and speech platform for healthcare solutions. This hands-on leadership role involves designing scalable backend services, evaluating AI models, and mentoring engineering teams in Bengaluru, India. The position operates on a Hybrid or Onsite work model.

What you’ll do

  • Lead technical architecture for AI-powered voice and speech applications
  • Evaluate and recommend AI models for use cases like transcription and conversational AI
  • Design and build scalable backend services using Java and Python
  • Work with Azure AI services including Voice Live API and OpenAI
  • Design low-latency, real-time speech processing pipelines
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver production-ready solutions
  • Drive technical decisions on model selection, performance, and cost optimization
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices across teams

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 14+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong backend development experience in Java
  • Working knowledge of Python for AI/ML integration
  • Experience building cloud-based applications on Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with AI/ML services like speech recognition or LLMs
  • Understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, and microservices
  • Strong problem-solving and technical leadership skills
