Lead Engineer - Control System

About the role

GE Vernova's Hydro Power division designs, manufactures, and services hydroelectric power plant equipment, accounting for over 25% of global installed hydropower capacity. As a Lead Engineer - Control System, you will lead project execution for Hydro Control System COE, performing hardware and software design of hydro control system packages on own DCS or third-party solutions. You will work autonomously under the Main Package Engineer or Control System Engineering Manager, delivering control system design deliverables, networking and cybersecurity solutions, and supporting FAT and site surveys. Based in Vadodara with a hybrid work model (3 days office), the role involves occasional short-term travel to customer and supplier premises.

What you’ll do

  • Perform hardware and software design of various hydro Control system packages for one or more projects, on own DCS or on 3rd party control solutions
  • Work on power plant control system design deliverables, networking and cybersecurity solutions involving PLC, IO devices, Server configuration and deployment, network architectures, switch configurati
  • Install and configure servers, network managed Switches, Routers & Firewalls for a power plant control environment (usually Rockwell, Mark VIe control system)
  • Define VLANs & Network segmentation
  • Create Functional Analysis documents and perform SW programming, logics, creation of static and dynamic mimics as per P&ID and standard faceplates using Automation design tools
  • Perform HMI configuration, Alarm display, simulation testing of software
  • Perform Soft IO configuration for standard communication protocols (Modbus, IEC61850, IEC60870-104, DNP 3, etc.)
  • Perform interlocking design, wiring principles, testing of control panels at GE Vernova workshop or supplier premises, support FAT

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation/Control from accredited college or university
  • 8 to 14 years of Controls Engineering experience
  • At least 5 years relevant experience in PLC hardware design and software programming
  • Awareness of applicable standards and best practices in DCS design, including HW design, SW logic, HMI design, control cubicle design, and cybersecurity solutions
  • Awareness of global Cybersecurity standards such as IEC62443 & NERC-CIP
  • Tools expertise in Rockwell Automation/Mark VIe/Siemens/ABB/Emerson based Control System tools (RS Logix, Studio 5000, FT View, Control ST, Cimplicity, Workstation ST, SCALA, SICAM)
  • Good command over written and spoken English for global stakeholder and customer management
  • Ability to work autonomously and deliver as directed under supervision of MPE or Control System Engineering Manager

Nice to have

  • Working experience on Rockwell Automation or Mark VIe based Control System is preferred, however similar experience on other reputed DCS systems like Siemens, ABB, Emerson, etc. is acceptable
  • Candidate with exposure in Cybersecurity domain will be an advantage
  • Able to manage and resolve conflicts in a fast-paced project execution environment
  • Clearly communicate and listen
  • Guide and motivate fellow team members
  • Preferred industry experience in Power, Large EPC, Oil & Gas
