About the role
Amazon Shipping team builds large-scale forecasting and optimization systems that power Amazon’s global transportation network. The Sr Applied Scientist leads ML teams, sets scientific direction, mentors scientists, and partners with product and engineering to deliver production‑grade models such as LSTMs, transformers, LLMs, and reinforcement learning for transportation planning. Gurugram, India, on-site role with relocation support.
What you’ll do
- Lead and grow a high‑performing team of Applied Scientists
- Define scientific vision and roadmap for ML solutions in transportation planning
- Guide model and system design across tree‑based models, deep learning, LLMs, and reinforcement learning
- Ensure models are production‑ready, scalable, and robust
- Own end‑to‑end business metrics impacting customer experience and cost
What you’ll bring
- 3+ years building machine learning models for business applications
- PhD or Master's degree with 6+ years applied research experience
- Programming in Java, C++, or Python
- Experience with neural deep learning methods
Nice to have
- Modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow
- Large scale distributed systems like Hadoop, Spark
