About the role
GE Vernova’s HVDC Valve Engineering team seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems for HVDC Valve products, supporting the global green energy transition. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, compliant, and manufacturable designs while mentoring junior engineers. This position is primarily based in Stafford with potential locations in Chennai.
What you’ll do
- Lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems and structures for HVDC Valve products
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical and cooling engineers
- Lead teams to deliver projects through design, investigation, testing, and analysis
- Lead specification and design reviews for compliance with internal and global standards
- Ensure DFM and structural integrity during installation with site and quality teams
- Validate and approve materials and supplied parts
- Approve documentation of designs, test results, and engineering change orders
- Mentor and develop junior engineers
What you’ll bring
- Degree level education in mechanical engineering or proven track record
- Senior-level experience leading an engineering team
- Detailed experience with mechanical elements and testing for electrical/mechanical equipment
- Highly skilled in CAD software (Creo) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Nice to have
- Prior experience in electrical transmission, HVDC, or related industry
- Qualifications in leadership or management
- EHS compliance qualifications related to safety and environment
- Willingness to travel globally for short periods
