Associate or Senior Editor, Discover Journals (Environmental Science)

About the role

Discover Journals series at Springer Nature advances scientific communication by providing a trusted, fast, and transparent publishing environment for environmental science research. The Associate or Senior Editor will manage a portfolio of journals, lead new launches, develop editorial strategies, oversee peer review, and build community engagement through conferences, blogs, and social media. Role is based in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, or Pune with a hybrid working model, collaborating with internal teams and external editorial boards.

What you’ll do

• Manage and grow a portfolio of Discover journals, setting editorial strategy and launch plans
• Project‑manage new journal launches, coordinating internal stakeholders to meet content thresholds
• Develop and execute journal development strategies, engaging authors and editorial boards
• Oversee peer‑review processes, ensure quality and resolve ethical issues
• Collaborate with marketing and content teams to increase journal visibility
• Represent journals at conferences and through blogs and social media
• Lead editorial board meetings and recruit new board members
• Work cross‑functionally with production, sales, and finance on journal initiatives

What you’ll bring

• PhD in Environmental Science or Geoscience or equivalent
• Interest in open access publishing
• Knowledge of editorial processes
• Excellent communication and influencing skills
• Strong analytical and critical appraisal abilities
• Willingness to travel occasionally for conferences
• Self-starter with problem‑solving mindset
• Previous editorial experience is a strong plus
