Control Engineer

About the role

The Control Engineer joins the controls team delivering project deliverables, controls software validation, project-specific software creation, FAT/SAT/HIL, and commissioning support for Solar & Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. Day-to-day work includes developing and implementing control software, designing control hardware configurations and communication networks, supporting on-site startup and integration, tracking deliverable status, and collaborating with project managers, internal teams, and customers to finalize engineering requirements and ensure customer satisfaction. The role is based in Chennai and is full-time.

What you’ll do

• Support controls software validation, project-specific software creation, FAT, SAT, HIL, and commissioning support for Solar & BESS projects
• Support on-site startup and integration of various systems to hardware and software
• Track overall status of controls deliverables and complete on time with quality for assigned projects to meet control team goals
• Interact with project managers, internal teams, and customers to finalize engineering requirements with respect to contract scope and deliver to ensure customer satisfaction
• Develop, improve, and administer customer overview and operational training material for the control system
• Work across Hybrid engineering and services organizations to prepare documentation for installation, commissioning, and operations for internal GE employees and customers
• Design, develop, and deploy control hardware configuration for each project and design the communication network (DI/DO, Ethernet, FO, and other industrial communication)
• Support problem identification and resolution of new and installed products and participate in controls design, software code reviews, testing, and software validation

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor/master’s degree in electrical/electronic/instrumentation/controls engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in developing and implementing control software
• Demonstrated software expertise in Solar, Battery Energy storage, plant-level controls, validation and verification, formal methods, systems integration, advanced controls, or related technologies
• Familiarity with standard industrial protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, EGD, Profibus, CAN bus, IEC 61850 and IEC 104
• Experience in PLC, DCS, SCADA, SQL and Matlab Simulink software
• Experience with various countries’ grid code compliance (Australian grid code, PLQ & AEMO requirements, UK, USA, European, Germany, Italy, Turkey & India grid codes)
• Familiar with AS/NZS safety standards
• Worked in any power generation industry like BESS, solar, renewable, thermal, nuclear etc.
