Associate Director, Software Engineering

About the role

HSBC seeks an Associate Director of Software Engineering in Pune to lead backend system design and microservice architecture. The role involves mentoring engineers, driving coding standards, and integrating AI features using LLM frameworks. This on-site position requires extensive experience in Java, Python, and distributed systems.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems
• Evolve microservice and event-driven architectures
• Partner with Solution Architects and Product Managers to translate business requirements
• Contribute to system and API design ensuring modularity and performance
• Ensure coding standards and drive best practices in testing and documentation
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews
• Integrate LLM frameworks to build AI and agentic features
• Help build products from vision to scalable platform

What you’ll bring

• 12 to 15 years of professional experience
• Expert knowledge of Java 8+ or Python frameworks
• Deep understanding of Micro-Service Architecture and Design Patterns
• Experience with REST and GraphQL API development
• Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, MongoDB)
• Knowledge of middleware technologies like Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab, Kubernetes, Docker
• Practical experience integrating LLM frameworks for AI features
