About the role
HITACHI ENERGY TECHNOLOGY SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED is hiring a Control & Protection Design Engineer in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India for an on-site, full-time role. The engineer serves as design authority for low-to-medium complexity control and protection tasks, preparing schematics up to 400 kV, bills of materials, engineering hour estimates, and technical risk assessments based on customer specifications and inputs from the Europe Engineering team. Day-to-day work includes creating line diagrams, protection interface diagrams, feeder block diagrams, trip matrices, signal lists, interlocks, and panel schematics for new and retrofit projects, while coordinating with Engineering Leads and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
What you’ll do
- Prepare key line diagrams, protection interface diagrams, feeder block diagrams, trip matrix, signal lists and interlocks per customer technical specifications
- Prepare control and relay panel schematics for new and existing setups, especially retrofit projects
- Prepare cable block diagrams, relay ordering information, cable schedules, and create wiring, termination, and labelling lists for panel manufacturing
- Interface between AC panels, DC panels, auxiliary transformers, battery, ACDC cable sizing, AIS and GIS secondary designs and coordinate with various departments
- Conduct technical risk and opportunity assessments, estimate engineering hours, and validate inputs
- Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines
- Take responsibility for assigned tasks and ensure timely delivery with high-quality results
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
- 4 to 8 years in commissioning and engineering for voltage level above 66kV
- Proficiency in CAD design tools such as Zuken E3, AutoCAD, Elecdes or equivalent
- Experience in secondary control and protection schematic design and relays/IEDs configuration
- Knowledge of PCM, Micom, and Digsi IED configuration tools
- Knowledge of test kits such as Omicron (CMC 356 & 256), Doble and other test kits
- Essential knowledge of primary equipment, bay controller units, SCADA, RTU, and teleprotection
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
