Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

About the role

At Databricks' Bengaluru, India office, the Senior Software Engineer (Backend) builds and scales the company's data and AI infrastructure platform. Day-to-day work spans core compute fabric resource management, cloud-agnostic infrastructure abstractions, and developer-experience tooling, with a current focus on optimizing the Rust development experience across the organization. The role contributes to foundational infrastructure platforms that enable seamless operation across numerous geographic regions and cloud providers.

What you’ll do

• Build foundational infrastructure platforms that enable seamless operation across numerous geographic regions and cloud providers
• Implement cloud-agnostic infrastructure abstractions to help Databricks engineers more efficiently manage and operate their services
• Develop tools and processes that drive engineering efficiency at Databricks
• Enhance the developer experience across programming languages, linters, static analysis, IDEs, remote development environments, automated release pipelines, and test automation frameworks
• Focus on optimizing the Rust development experience across the organization

What you’ll bring

• BS (or higher) in Computer Science, or a related field
• 6+ years of production level experience in one of: Python, Java, Scala, C++, or similar language
• Experience developing large-scale distributed systems from scratch
• Experience working on a SaaS platform or with Service-Oriented Architectures
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Scala, or Go
• Hands-on experience in developing and operating backend systems
• Ability to contribute effectively throughout all project phases, from initial design and development to implementation and ongoing operations, with guidance from senior team members
