About the role
Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) at Caterpillar designs and builds core engine components for heavy equipment. The Engineer leads design, development, and validation of cylinder heads, blocks, crankshafts, and related parts, collaborating with suppliers and cross‑functional teams to meet performance, durability, and cost targets. Based in Chennai or Bangalore, India, on‑site 5‑day work week with 15‑20% travel to supplier facilities.
What you’ll do
- Lead design and development of core engine components
- Perform design calculations and technical evaluations
- Utilize product development processes (FMEA, DVP&R, APQP, PPAP)
- Conduct performance analysis using simulation tools
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, quality, and purchasing
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams for test and validation
- Ensure drawings contain complete downstream information
- Drive projects to meet time, quality, and cost targets
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with 7+ years experience
- 3+ years component design or validation
- Strong functional knowledge of core engine components
- Proficiency in Creo and performance analysis tools (AVL, GT)
- Project management and NPI/NTI/CPI process knowledge
- Excellent communication and global collaboration skills
- Willingness to travel globally 15‑20% of time
