As an R&D Simulation Model Engineer, you will develop, deliver, and maintain base models for power quality and power conversion applications across multiple simulation environments. Day-to-day work includes building component models in PSCAD, PSSE Dig SILENT, Power Factory, and EMTP-RV, troubleshooting faults, benchmarking simulations, adapting models to grid codes and customer networks, and writing technical reports. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
What you’ll do
- Develop base models and component development in PSCAD, PSSE Dig SILENT, Power Factory, and EMTP-RV for power electronics-based applications
- Understand customer requirements and develop models for customers in the specified simulation software
- Develop scalable models and maintain them in line with control platform changes
- Collaborate with engineering groups (Power Quality, Power conversion, LP STATCOM), Application engineering, and Product management
- Write technical reports for base models to facilitate ease of use
- Perform model troubleshooting, fault tracing, and support customers in adapting models to customer-specific networks
- Conduct simulation model benchmarking across different simulation software
- Understand grid codes and adapt models in accordance with requirements
What you’ll bring
- ME Power Systems or ME Power Electronics degree
- 0-3+ years of experience modelling IBRs for power quality and power conversion applications
- Experience in simulation tools such as EMTDC/PSCAD, PSS/E, EMTP-RV, and Dig SILENT Power Factory
- Good knowledge of FORTRAN, Python, MATLAB, and C
- Understanding of Power Electronics application in HV/EHV systems
- Experience performing power system studies (load flow, short circuit, transient stability, switching transients) for utility/industrial systems
- Familiarity with IEEE/CIGRE guidelines for simulation model development
- Good knowledge of Power Systems equipment and their purpose
