About the role
GE Vernova’s Advanced Research business is the central innovation engine for GE’s energy portfolio, driving research to decarbonize power, accelerate renewables, and build a 21st-century grid. As a Senior Research Engineer in Computer Vision, you will lead cutting-edge AIML and computer vision projects for visual inspection, anomaly detection, prognostics, diagnostics, and modelling of large-scale energy equipment. Based in Bengaluru, you will architect algorithms, supervise experiments, mentor junior researchers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate solutions into existing platforms.
What you’ll do
- Lead the development of advanced algorithms and methodologies in AIML and computer vision to drive process and product innovation
- Oversee analysis of extensive datasets to identify complex patterns, trends, and insights, with emphasis on computer vision-based diagnostics, visual inspection, and prognostics for large-scale energy
- Architect and optimize AIML and computer vision algorithms and models, including convolutional neural networks and generative models, for superior performance and scalability
- Design, conduct, and supervise experiments to assess the efficacy and reliability of AIML-based solutions
- Document and disseminate research findings, methodologies, and implementation strategies for knowledge sharing
- Collaborate with and guide cross-functional teams, including engineers, researchers, and product managers, to integrate AIML solutions into existing system platforms
- Lead research initiatives to conceptualize and develop AI and computer vision solutions for complex industrial challenges, including image-based defect detection, object recognition, and visual analyt
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to project leadership, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives
What you’ll bring
- PhD with 7-10 years relevant experience or Masters with 10+ years relevant experience from a reputed institution
- Extensive understanding and experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and related fields
- Demonstrated expertise in image processing, object detection, segmentation, and deep learning architectures (e.g., CNNs, Vision Transformers)
- Proven track record of applying advanced AIML and computer vision concepts to practical applications such as industrial visual inspection, image classification, and real-time object detection
- Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, and related libraries
- Expertise in data analysis and manipulation using pandas, NumPy, and software development best practices including version control (e.g., Git) and agile methodologies
- Strong leadership capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to think critically and creatively
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead, mentor, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment
