About the role

Data Technology team at HSBC drives enterprise data platforms enabling AI, customer insight, and regulatory compliance. As a Principal Data Engineer you will define standards, lead architecture, and mentor engineers across data pipelines, APIs, and event-driven systems in hybrid cloud environments. Pune, Maharashtra, India, on-site, Full-time role focusing on scalable data services and developer experience.

What you’ll do

• Define and evolve reference engineering standards for data platforms
• Lead peer reviews and ensure platform consistency and compliance
• Guide development of data pipelines, APIs, and metadata controls
• Champion DevSecOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Drive AI coding assistant integration and developer experience
• Mentor senior engineers across multiple squads
• Collaborate with architecture, cybersecurity, and product owners
• Represent domain in technology councils and architecture forums

What you’ll bring

• 10+ years data platform engineering
• experience with AWS and GCP
• expertise in Kafka, Spark, and Spring
• strong knowledge of data mesh and lakehouse architectures
• proficiency in IaC and containerisation
• ability to write production code
• experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines
• excellent communication and influencing skills
