About the role

Plume is an open, hardware-independent service delivery platform for smart homes and enterprises, using WiFi, AI, and machine learning to manage connected spaces at scale. As an SDET/Dev-QA Engineer in Hyderabad, India, you will ensure the functionality and performance of edge security products by designing automated test cases for DPI engines, validating network traffic inspection, and collaborating with Dev and Automation teams. This is an in-office contract role requiring 3+ years of experience in networking or security QA.

What you’ll do

  • Design and develop automated test cases for validating DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) engines and secure network traffic inspection.
  • Test real-world client/router/cloud interactions for deep testing of L2–L7 network behavior.
  • Validate TLS/SSL traffic inspection and network traffic classification techniques.
  • Write tests to ensure accurate handling of malformed packets, evasive traffic, and intrusion detection patterns.
  • Simulate security vulnerabilities (e.g., DNS tunneling, spoofing, port scanning) and evaluate detection effectiveness.
  • Leverage and extend DPI tools (e.g., nDPI, Suricata, Zeek) for custom validation use cases.
  • Partner with firmware developers to validate & test the access control logic.
  • Identify and document bugs and contribute to the continuous improvement of QA processes.

What you’ll bring

  • 3+ years of experience as an SDET, Security QA Engineer, or related role in networking/security domains.
  • Strong programming/scripting in Python for test automation and tooling.
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, TLS, HTTP/HTTPS, NAT, VPNs, and tunneling protocols.
  • Hands-on with packet sniffers (e.g., Wireshark) and PCAP analysis.
  • Solid grasp of firewall behavior, DPI concepts, SSL inspection, and secure communication protocols.
  • Strong debugging skills to spot design flaws, race conditions, and performance bottlenecks in complex architectures.
  • Ability to break software systems in creative and useful ways.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with nDPI, Suricata or commercial DPI stacks.
  • Exposure to MITM techniques, threat simulation frameworks.
  • Prior experience testing IoT or Wi-Fi edge devices (e.g., OpenWRT, OpenSync, embedded Linux).
  • Background in cybersecurity, network security, or traffic classification.
  • Experience in testing cloud-native networking products.
