About the role

The Patents & Open Source team at eBay protects the company's innovation through a global IP portfolio. In this Bengaluru, India-based hybrid role, you will scale an AI-assisted drafting program to capture high-impact inventions across AI/ML, marketplace experiences, trust, and seller success. Day-to-day work includes drafting patent applications with AI-assisted tools, leading AI-enabled prosecution, implementing drafting pipelines, coordinating global filing strategy, and educating inventors on AI-enabled patentability assessments, with cross-time-zone collaboration across APAC, EU, and US.

What you’ll do

Draft or equivalent experience in preparing high-quality patent applications using AI-assisted drafting tools, translating complex technical solutions into clear, defensible claims
Lead AI-enabled prosecution tasks to secure meaningful protection
Implement timely engineering, pattern libraries, and document pipelines for AI drafting
Partner with the IPSC process to evaluate invention disclosures
Coordinate a global filing strategy for business-critical inventions
Educate inventors and product/tech teams on AI-enabled patentability assessments

What you’ll bring

Significant experience drafting and prosecuting software/AI/e-commerce patents
Technical background with 4-8 years of solid technical and legal experience in drafting patent applications across software, AI, and e-commerce domains and managing patent portfolios
Proficiency with AI drafting workflows and modern patent tools
Strong written advocacy, strategic prosecution judgment, and docket ownership
Collaborative, inclusive communicator comfortable in a hybrid, cross-time-zone environment
High integrity, sound legal judgment, and dedication to confidentiality and continuous improvement in AI-enabled processes
Ability to draft or equivalent experience in preparing high-quality patent applications using AI-assisted drafting tools
Ability to translate complex technical solutions into clear, defensible claims
