About the role
VTI Instruments (VTI) / United Electronic Industries (UEI) is a leading supplier of instrumentation for demanding test applications across aerospace, defense, energy, transportation, and commercial electronics. As a Technical Lead - Mechanical Engineer based in Bangalore, KA, IN, you will drive the design and development of electronics enclosures, chassis, and mechanical packaging for next-generation Data Acquisition and Test & Measurement products. Day-to-day work includes leading mechanical design from concept to production, developing 3D models and manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks, owning thermal, safety, and EMI/EMC requirements, designing ruggedized chassis, driving prototype builds and qualification, collaborating with hardware and manufacturing teams, managing vendors, and mentoring mechanical engineers.
What you’ll do
- Lead the mechanical design of electronic enclosures, chassis, and packaging solutions from concept to production
- Develop 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and assembly documentation using SolidWorks
- Design sheet metal, machined, molded, cast, and extruded components with a focus on manufacturability and reliability
- Own mechanical requirements, thermal design, safety compliance, and EMI/EMC considerations
- Design ruggedized chassis for industrial, aerospace, and defense applications
- Drive prototype builds, product qualification, ECO implementation, and production support
- Collaborate with hardware, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to ensure successful product delivery
- Manage vendor interactions for fabrication, machining, tooling, and production activities
What you’ll bring
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
- 8+ years of mechanical product design experience for electronic enclosures and chassis
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with thermal management, including conduction and forced-air cooling
Nice to have
- Strong expertise in sheet metal enclosure design, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes
- Proficiency in SolidWorks
- Experience with cast, molded, and machined components is an added advantage
- Exposure to wire harness routing, fabrication processes, and assembly methods
- Knowledge of military, industrial, and regulatory compliance standards
- Experience with IP-rated and ruggedized product design
- Working knowledge of EMI/EMC, product safety, shock, vibration, and environmental qualification
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills
