Research Engineer - Inspection Technologies

Bengaluru Full-time

About the role

GE Vernova Advanced Research in Inspection Technologies seeks a Research Engineer to execute and lead NDE and inspection programs across GE Vernova's product lifecycle, from manufacturing to field services and repair. Day-to-day work includes designing inspection probes and sensors, physics-based modeling, inspection planning, experimental validation, field experimentation, and inspection optimization, plus developing inspection techniques for raw materials, manufactured components, and in-service parts. The role also integrates inspection data processing algorithms and software, develops new NDE technologies for health monitoring and damage detection, and collaborates with GE Vernova product engineers and GE Global Research to build and execute technical projects. Based in Bengaluru.

What you’ll do

  • Design inspection probes/sensors, physics-based modeling, inspection planning, experimental validation, field experimentation, and inspection optimization
  • Develop inspection techniques for applications from raw materials to manufactured components to in-service part inspection
  • Integrate inspection data processing algorithms and software, including system capability analysis (probability of detection), signal/data analytics, imaging, data fusion, and workflow algorithms
  • Develop new NDE technologies for health monitoring, damage detection, and material characterization
  • Network and collaborate with GE Vernova product engineers and GE Global Research team members to build plans and execute technical projects
  • Deliver technical projects on set timelines and cost, implement plans with minimal guidance, and assure proper documentation
  • Quickly learn new, unfamiliar product knowledge and technology areas
  • Connect regularly with business stakeholders to understand inspection needs and scope and execute programs

What you’ll bring

  • PhD in Physics/Engineering with 2+ years post-PhD experience in NDE, or Master's in Sciences/Engineering with 5+ years post-Master's experience
  • Fundamental knowledge of NDE concepts and techniques with hands-on, deep domain expertise in eddy current, ultrasound, microwave, and other inspection modalities
  • Exposure to physics-based modeling for eddy current probe design
  • Hands-on experience setting up and running experiments; basic background in hardware and instrumentation
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate, plan, and conduct research projects with specific objectives, milestones, and financial constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented research environment
  • Demonstrated ability in idea generation
  • Solid understanding of material degradation/failure mechanisms and detection through relevant NDE techniques
