About the role

Hitachi Energy India Development Centre (IDC) in Chennai is a research and development facility focused on digital solutions, new products, and technology for power quality solutions. As a Business R&D Senior Professional, you will research and develop control philosophy for new and evolving technologies, implement and validate control and protection logic in the MACH control system, perform simulations using MATLAB, Simulink, and PSCAD, and conduct hardware-in-the-loop validation testing with RTDS. You will also travel to sites to support R&D activities or troubleshoot ongoing FACTS projects, ensuring quality deliverables and compliance with regulations.

What you’ll do

  • Research and develop control philosophy for new and evolving technologies or improve control performance of existing technologies in power quality domain
  • Implement, verify, and validate developed control and protection logic in MACH control system to create rigorously tested, stable baseline solutions
  • Perform simulation of control logics and verification in software-in-the-loop environment using tools including MATLAB scripts, MATLAB Simulink, and PSCAD
  • Perform validation testing of the whole FACTS system in hardware-in-the-loop environment with real-time digital simulator setup (e.g., RTDS interfaced with MACH system)
  • Travel to sites to support various R&D activities or troubleshoot ongoing FACTS projects
  • Ensure quality, on-time delivery, and proactive communication of progress to R&D project management, work-stream lead, and other stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines

What you’ll bring

  • ME Power Systems or ME Power Electronics
  • 0-3 years of experience
  • Strong understanding of power system concepts including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and switching transients
  • Good understanding of control design concepts and power electronics applications in power systems (HV/EHV levels)
  • Good knowledge of Power Systems equipment such as transformers, capacitors, reactors, instrument transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, and surge arrestors
  • Ability to implement, verify, and validate control and protection logic in MACH control system
  • Ability to perform simulation of control logics using MATLAB scripts, MATLAB Simulink, and PSCAD
  • Ability to perform validation testing of FACTS system in hardware-in-the-loop environment with RTDS
