About the role

Xylem, a Fortune 500 global water solutions company, seeks a Senior Technical Writer to join its Global Technical Communication Center of Excellence in Bengaluru and Chennai. The role involves creating world‑class customer documentation for hardware and software products, authoring and managing content within a Component Content Management System (CCMS), and collaborating with project coordinators and subject‑matter experts worldwide. Responsibilities include developing reusable, structured technical content aligned with Xylem’s authoring guidelines, conducting task analysis, preparing annotated topic lists, maintaining topics, chapter maps, book maps, and metadata in the CCMS, producing illustrations and graphics, ensuring review cycles and software‑assisted checks for grammar, style, and terminology, initiating translation requests, coordinating translation reviews, communicating release updates, and contributing to CCMS structure, templates, and information model. The position supports continuous improvement projects, process optimization, and training initiatives within Xylem’s documentation ecosystem. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, have 4–6 years of senior technical writing experience in an international, English‑language environment, and possess proven expertise in DITA XML authoring, single‑sourcing practices, and basic technical illustration. Proficiency in DITA XML, CCMS platforms such as Astoria On‑Demand or AEM, XML editors, terminology tools like Acrolinx, illustration tools (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Creo Illustrate, Keyshot), and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence) is required. Interest in GenAI and automation using Python is desirable.

What you’ll do

Develop reusable, structured technical content aligned with Xylem’s authoring guidelines, information model, and style guide.
Conduct task analysis (TA) and prepare annotated topic lists (ATL).
Create and maintain Topics, Chaptermaps, Bookmaps, and metadata within the CCMS.
Produce and maintain illustrations, graphics, and photo-realistic renderings.
Ensure the completion of review cycle and software-assisted checks for grammar, style, and terminology.
Initiate translation requests and coordinate translation reviews.
Communicate release updates to stakeholders via designated channels.
Contribute to the development of the CCMS structure, templates, and information model.
Participate in initiatives to enhance documentation quality, workflow efficiency, and content governance.

What you’ll bring

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electronics, Aeronautical, Computer Science, or equivalent field).
4–6 years of professional experience as a Technical Writer (Senior level) in an international, English-language environment.
Proven expertise in DITA XML authoring and single-sourcing practices.
Basic experience creating technical illustrations in vector or raster formats.

Nice to have

Interest in GenAI and automation using Python or similar programming languages is desirable.
Experience with terminology and content quality tools such as Acrolinx.
